Meyda Lighting’s Sales Manager Max Cohen Raises $600 for Charity

Meyda Lighting: Max Cohen, the Upstate New York area Sales Manager and Factory Showroom Manager for Meyda Lighting in Yorkville, N.Y., held his birthday party at a local restaurant to help raise funds for MAC’s Safe Ride, a free transportation service for local residents. The event was held at Totes Tea House in Thendara, N.Y., with 130 people in attendance raising $600 for the charity.

MAC’s Safe Ride is a late night transportation service that provides local transit to residents that are out drinking in the Old Forge, New York area and need a ride home.  All you have to do is pick up the phone and a bright orange van will come pick you up any night of the week if you are within 10 miles of the Old Forge area.  There is no charge for the ride.

The service came about after two local men, Matthew Girouard, 22, and Craig Sears, 24, were killed in a car accident. Their friend, Matthew Lewis, was driving the car and survived, but was charged with second-degree manslaughter and drunk driving charges. One of the mothers who lost her son in the accident and more than 100 volunteers take turns driving the van to prevent others from a similar fate. Many of the local bars in the area said this service gives their patrons a safe alternative to driving home drunk and is a big convenience to everyone in the area.
