Indianapolis Pyramid Building Goes PINK

The Center Pyramid Building in Indianapolis will “go pink” beginning on October 3 for one week in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and as a reminder for women to schedule their annual mammogram, a lifesaving screening for thousands of women each year. The Central Pyramid Building – home to the Susan G. Komen (SGK) for the Cure Central Indiana headquarters – will be illuminated by five pink luminaires donated and installed as temporary accent lighting by EYE Lighting International, a manufacturer of lamps, luminaires, and related lighting products. “Since we moved into our office, we have always imagined a pink pyramid to heighten awareness of our mission throughout October. What could be a better reminder for our community to help increase awareness for early screenings and remind women to make their mammography appointments,” says Dana Curish, executive director of the Central Indiana Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. In addition to launching October as Breast Cancer Awareness month, the luminaires will also signify the opening of participant registration for the 2013 Race for the CureĀ® to be held April 20, 2013. “As an independent affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization, we raise our own money and could not fully afford our dream to turn the Pyramids pink. We are very appreciative to EYE Lighting for their helping to champion our mission to end breast cancer,” adds Curish. “EYE Lighting has always supported its employees’ health and wellness by offering flu shots, health screenings, and encouraging healthy living habits. We wanted to work with SGK to raise awareness for an important cause while upholding our core principles and expanding our culture of caring on a larger scale. We know these lights will serve as a reminder to millions of women and men,” comments Rob Freitag, VP/Marketing for EYE Lighting International. The Urban Act Architectural Floodlight luminaires feature ceramic metal halide lamps that provide up to 73% energy savings compared to 400-watt pulse-start lamps. Rosco Labs provided the pink colored lens for the fixtures. “The Urban Act Floodlighting luminaires are performance light sources designed with superior optical control. Because of their lightweight and compact size, they are perfect for indoor or outdoor applications such as on the Pyramid buildings. We hope the resulting increased awareness from these luminaires will encourage other organizations to consider making an impactful visual statement,” notes John Fisher, HID luminaire product manager for EYE Lighting. Susan G. Komen for the Cure Central Indiana will retain the luminaires to use at their discretion in the future to raise awareness for early screenings and outreach in Indianapolis.
