International Association of Lighting Designers Adds New Professional Members

The International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) has welcomed the following Professional level members to its membership: Hamrah Ghashghaei of Hamrah Ghashghaei Lighting Design in Shiraz, Iran; and Katherine Stekr, senior lighting designer at RNL Design in Denver, Colorado.

Hamrah Ghashghaei has 10+ years of professional experience designing throughout Iran and

internationally. As an electrical engineer turned lighting designer, he designs with a unique blend of technical knowledge and artistic expertise that enhances the human experience and reinforces the architectural design. With a passion for complex and demanding projects, he has worked on everything from commercial complexes, hotels and residential buildings, to landscape, historical buildings, and tunnels.

Ghashghaei is a member of the Illuminating Engineering Society of Iran (IESI) and has served as advisory member of the IES Illumination Awards Committee and the IES Energy Management Committee. He is also a member of the International Association of Engineers (IAENG).

Katherine Stekr is an award-winning lighting designer with 7+ years of experience working for leading lighting design firms across the country. Her project work has included hospitality, higher education, healthcare, civic, and international master planning work. Stekr has won awards for projects such as the Lory Student Center Theater renovation and the renovation of Mortensen’s Denver headquarters. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering from the University of Colorado Boulder and holds LEED BD+C, MIES, EDAC certifications. She’s also the current president of Colorado’s Brilliance Awards.

Also accepted as Professional level members into the IALD are Andreas Gut and Matthias Wilcken-Frey, both of Lighting Design Engineers Vogtpartner Winterthur in Zurich, Switzerland; and AC Hickox of Domingo Gonzalez Associates in New York City.

IALD Professional membership is available to architectural lighting designers who have at least five years of experience in the field in the role of senior designer or above in an independent consulting practice. IALD members worldwide must meet the highest educational and ethical standards in order to belong to this prestigious community, and are accepted as Professional members on the strength of their portfolios and recommendations.
