Bright Light Design Center, the retail lighting division of Colonial Electric – one of the largest family-owned electrical distributors in the Mid-Atlantic region – hosted an open house April 20 to celebrate its newest location inside the new Design Center Philadelphia building at 1100 Ludlow Street, an area considered to be “the new hub for Philadelphia’s Design District.”
Although Colonial Electric operates 18 electric supply locations plus 5 Bright Light Design Center lighting showrooms, this latest showroom is the first trade-only showroom in the company’s history. To celebrate the nearby Industry Design Awards (IDA) ceremony, sponsored by the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) later that evening, the showroom opened its doors for a pre-awards fête for the attending designers and architects.
The star of the evening, however, was the stunning $90,000 Le Roi Soleil chandelier from French crystal manufacturer Baccarat. Bright Light is Baccarat’s exclusive lighting distributor in Philadelphia, and the fixture can only be seen in person at Bright Light’s Design Center Philadelphia showroom. The 24-light chandelier features a unique spherical shape and Baccarat’s signature single red stone. Measuring 39″ high x 45″ wide, it took more than two days for Bright Light’s team to assemble it.
“This piece is a testament to our designers’ craftsmanship and attention to detail,” says Baccarat rep David Wunderlich. “Le Roi Soleil embodies sophistication, elegance, and everyday luxury.”
In addition to Baccarat, Bright Light has an exclusive product offering from about 25 lighting manufacturers. Colonial Electric/Bright Light Design Center’s Vice President David Bellwoar says the 1,800-sq.-ft. Center City showroom was designed with the “high-end penthouse lifestyle consumer in mind. We offer the best of the best,” he adds. “This showroom represents quality over quantity.”
