A Good Problem to Have
It’s that time of year for enLIGHTenment magazine, where we tabulate the nominations for our annual Legends, Leaders & Luminaries awards. I imagine it must be like what goes on at
the Academy Awards. And just like the recent Oscars, there was an unprecedented amount of contenders.
This year we had more nominees than ever before, and truthfully everyone who was nominated was entirely deserving. It was because of this overwhelming response that we decided to release a list of Finalists for the rst time to share with the lighting
industry a sampling of the quali ed individuals up for consideration.
We were thrilled to see the list of Luminary nominees grow to its largest ever in the awards’ six-year history. There has been a lot of concern in the industry that there might not be enough young people entering the business, but the steady growth of the ALA’s Young Executives group and the appearance of many third (and even fourth) generations of lighting family members a ending the Dallas Market (aka Lightovation) have been
pu ing those fears to rest.
As anyone who has been in the lighting business for 30 years or more knows, there are
many individuals who are deserving of public recognition who aren’t Finalists or Winners. This does not re ect on the eligibility of their invaluable service, but is o en a result of either their decision to not want to be in the spotlight or their reluctance to let their peers (factories, distributors, or reps) know that they would like to be considered.
We would like to thank everyone who took the time to nominate their list of outstanding individuals in each category, and to please know that every word of your nomination was read and taken into consideration. This is not a random drawing, but a selection process we take very seriously and that is ge ing harder every year to decide. On the plus side, this is a great problem to have! The lighting industry is fortunate to have so many passionate trailblazers among its members. If the person you nominated did not make the list this year, please do submit those names again next year for consideration.
