Soon after New Orleans was selected as the site for the 2012 Accessories Resource Team Conference, executive director Sharon Davis began searching for a community project that Accessories Resource Team members could become involved with that would be a perfect fit for the organization. voulinteer wort they did at the

That opportunity came courtesy of the Jericho Road Episcopal Housing Initiative of New Orleans, a neighborhood-based nonprofit home builder that provides families with healthy and energy-efficient affordable housing opportunities. Jericho Road partners with neighborhood residents, organizations, and businesses to create and maintain stable and thriving communities.  These high-quality, low-cost homes are part of the revitalization of a neighborhood that has been struggling to thrive for decades. Each home’s construction emphasizes traditional architecture, green building practices, and universal design principles. Jericho Road prioritizes neighborhood revitalization by reducing blight and vacant properties and focusing on economic vitality.

Jericho Road had several homes that were recently constructed on Saratoga Street that needed some finishing touches. The newly constructed homes feature hardwood floors, ceramic tile, granite countertops, stainless steel kitchen appliances, washer and dryer, private fencing in the backyard, and off-street parking.  Potential homeowners must meet certain income criteria, complete a 12-hour First Time Homebuyer course, and make a minimum investment of $2,500 in the property.

ART members and industry sponsors donated furniture, lighting, and decorative accessories to make the homes complete.  Some of the manufacturers who contributed include Aidan Gray, Barbara Cosgrove, Capital Lighting, Cyan Design, Emissary, Feiss, Gallery Designs, Guildmaster, IMAX, Lazy Susan, Moss Studio, Noir, Palecek, Paragon, Troy-CSL, and WAC Lighting.

ART Conference attendees installed – and sometimes assembled – the furniture that was donated and selected for four new homes in the Saratoga Square in Faubourg Lafayette section in the historic Central City area of New Orleans.  Even conference speakers interior designer Barry Dixon and HGTV’s John Gidding got involved and got dirty with the rest of the ART membership.
